The article offers a synthesis of the role played by the state and its institutions in Spain in terms of gun control policies, civilian disarmament policies and its participation in dynamics of «selective rearmament » of the population throughout the period 1868-1936. This analysis allows us to examine, among others, the impact of state policies on the escalation of acts of violence and terrorism in the pre-war years and those that followed the Great War and took place throughout the inter-war period.
