A Book on Public Order, Police and…
how the Italian State dealt with the mafia
How was public order established in Italy during the liberal period from 1861 to 1914? How did policies aimed at controlling subversive and criminal activities influence the development of the Italian state? Our colleague and head of the GlobArms research project, Andrea Azzarelli, has recently published a monograph which provides the answers to these questions. Published by Rubbettino Editore, the book offers a glimpse into a crucial period in post-unification Italy. It explores the complex interplay between law enforcement, criminal groups, and subversive movements, including the Mafia, prefects, the carabinieri, popular uprisings and the institutional transformations of the late 19th century.
